TF2 is all too often overlooked. Both by the Valve themselves, and the community that surrounds Valve. The game hasn't had a significant update in 3 years, and even then in 2017, the last big update was the Love and War update in 2014. Many people often write off TF2 as a dead game, but in the 1000 hours I've spent with the game since 2016, I can safely say that it is far from dead. It has one of the most dedicated communities I've ever been a part of, and it's clear why to me. This is one of the best multiplayer games I've ever played, even despite all the problems that have come from Valve's negligence. Valve hasn't done much to crack down on hacker and spam bots, but many servers will thankfully kick them nearly instantly. The lack of updates may make someone think that the game would grow stale after some time, but I have barely been bored in the amount of time I've played TF2 for. I've never understood how TF2 was able to accomplish this, but I think I have finally figured it out. I am going to compare TF2 to a similar game, Overwatch. If you asked me which games was more fun in the first 100 or so hours of both games, I would say Overwatch, but if you asked the same question after 200 hours of Overwatch, and 500 of TF2, I would say TF2. This shouldn't make much sense, since Overwatch has more variety, with 32 heroes compared to TF2's 9 mercenaries, but the reason for this is that Overwatch's skill ceiling is far lower than TF2's. Let's use rocket jumping as an example. At first, rocket jumping seems fairly easy. Shoot a rocket at your feet, and you jump into the air. Seems easy enough, but rocket jumping is far more complex than that. You start to experiment with shooting a bit behind you so you can jump a bit further, than you try shooting off walls to go even further, and before you know it, you're practicing how to strafe, wall jump, pogo/B-hop, sync jump, and common rollouts on maps. Rocket jumping is probably more complex than any mechanic in Overwatch. Rocket jumping is just one example of an easy to learn mechanic, that takes a lot of time and practice to master. You can always feel every time you improve, and that's only one reason TF2 is so good. There are many other things that help it. The artstyle is unique, and looks great. TF2 is one of Valv'es funniest games, and to add to this, the comics are some of the best material Valve has made. TF2's combat and movement is very well refined. I can't really find any faults with the game outside of the lack of updates, but that isn't too large of an issue. TF2 is a fantastic video game that is completely free.
10/10.
